Preparing For NYSC Orientation Camp | What You Need To Have

NYSC Orientation Camp: Are you due for Service? Have you completed all the necessary registration procedure? Now, it’s time to equip yourself with firsthand information on how to prepare for the three weeks orientation camp and what to expect when you get there.

Preparing for NYSC camp can be a confusing task, rising from the quest to know the needed things you are to go with, which does not come handy. Many persons have gotten to the camp and realized they got there unprepared. The pressure of sorting out the things in the quickest time will get you exhausted, even at the backdrop of your long-distance journey. How to Prepare For NYSC Orientation Camp

Here is a checklist of compulsory things you should place first in your luggage, they include important documents you will need for clearance viz.

(1) NYSC Call-up Letter

Your call-up letter is the first important thing you must not forget when you are packing for the orientation camp. Take with you both the original copy and the photocopies you made. It proves you are a real and prospective corps member. Also, there is no need to laminate your call up letter.

(2) School Identity Card

Your school identity card shows you are a product of the institution you graduated from and it is needed during the NYSC  documentation process. Take with you the original copy and also make photocopies.

(3) Statements of Result or Certificates

You are to take with you the original copy and six photocopies of your statement of your result/certificate of the course you studied. If you are a medical graduate/optometrist/pharmacist, you are to take with you the evidence of completion of internship or horsemanship and the original copy of your Registration Certificate with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria/ Optometrist Registration Council/ Pharmacist Board as the case may be.

(4) Passport photographs

It is recommended that you go with your recent passport photographs. Copies of the passport photographs will be needed in all the process of documentation in camp. So come with several copies.

(5) Medical Certificate of fitness

You are to obtain a medical certificate to show your current health status at the camp from a government or military hospital. Make sure you do not forget it.

Meanwhile, every corper receives NYSC Kit and mattress during registration at the orientation camp. The NYSC Kit contains two white round neck T-shirts, two pairs of white shorts, one NYSC crested vest, a pair of NYSC khaki (jacket, belt, and trousers) crested NYSC cap and one pair of Jungle boots.

Optional Items you may need:

There are still essential things needed by a corp member in the camp apart from the aforementioned compulsory items. These items are more for the corpers’ personal use while in the camp; they include:

(a) Toiletries

These are items you need for your personal hygiene, such as bathing/washing soaps and bucket, toothbrush, toothpaste, tissue papers, sanitary pads(exclusively for females), rubber slippers, bedspread/sheets, pillowcase/ pillow(optional), wrapper or blanket, pomade, towel, antiseptics/disinfectants, treated mosquito net, etc.

(b) Dish set

You need to get also a food flask, a spoon, and a drinking cup or flask for your personal use in the camp.

(c) Medical kits

These are medical items that can be handy during emergencies amidst the presence of a clinic in the camp. You can carry multivitamins, analgesics or pain relievers, antibiotics, prescription tablets for malaria, anti-purging pills, and other medicines that you need to cope (especially if you know you have some conditions), cotton wool, plasters, methylated spirit, Robb, hand sanitizer and other things you think you might personally need.

(d) Safety kits

To ensure you are safe and your property, you need to go with a padlock for your box/luggage, waist pouch, flashlight (Torchlight)/Rechargeable lamps. If you are going with a flashlight that uses batteries, you should take enough batteries with you.

Also, you need to go to the camp with a good number of white round neck T-shirt, white shorts and plain white sneakers or tennis shoes with white socks to compliment the items the NYSC will give you in the camp.

It is necessary to go to the camp with enough money and ATM card to help you pay for other things you might need. Then, to be able to keep tab with your relations at home, you need not to forget your Phone charger/Power bank. If possible you can go with an extra battery for your mobile phone or smartphone.

Interesting books can still get you refreshed amidst the lots of activities in the camp. So, you can go with some for your leisure time.

The aforementioned items will make your stay in the camp memorable. They will also help you not to spend much in camp especially if you also go with provisions such as milk, sugar, golden morn, corn flakes and of course, garri.
